Wedding vow templates

by | Apr 11, 2026 | For YBD Couples

Writing your own wedding vows really is the peak way to personalise your ceremony. This is your chance to say something real to your partner, in your own words. Your celebrant will take care of the legal formalities with the “I do” moment following your vows… Which means you have full creative freedom here.

If you’re not sure where to start, you’re not alone. Most couples sit down to write their vows and think: “Wait… how do we actually do this?”

The good news? It’s a lot simpler than you think.

Instead of starting from scratch, it helps to follow a loose structure that can guide your thoughts without boxing you in. Below are a few easy vow templates to get you started. You can follow them as they are, mix and match, or take the idea and make it completely your own.

Good luck… We can’t wait to read what you create! Remember to share any draft wedding vows with your celebrant at least 4 weeks before your wedding ceremony. This gives them time to review your vows and come back to you with feedback and encouragement. You can then make any updates and finishing touches you like and feel ready to read your wedding vows on your big day.

 OPTION ONE

A great place to start if you want something natural and easy to write.

  • Open with a simple but heartfelt “I love you”
  • Share some things you love and admire about your partner
  • Talk about why you make such a great team
  • Talk about what you’re most looking forward to in your marriage
  • Make some promises to them for your future together

OPTION TWO

Perfect if you want your vows to feel like a bit of a journey.

  • Begin by reflecting on how far you’ve come since you first met
  • Talk about how your partner and your relationship have shaped that journey
  • Share your hopes for your future together
  • Talk about how you intend to show up as a husband/wife (your promises to them)
  • Finish with “Let’s do this”

OPTION THREE

A slightly deeper option, with a focus on commitment and honesty.

  • Share what marriage means to you and the marriage you want to create together
  • Tell your partner what you love about them and why you’ve chosen them for life
  • Thank them for something that enriches your relationship
  • Offer yourself to your partner, exactly as you are
  • Finish with the promises you’re making for your future together
