Marriage commitment options

THE “IDO” PART OF YOUR CEREMONY…

Your official marriage commitment is a legal requirement during your ceremony. Both of your full legal names must be stated, and you must both agree to enter into your marriage with each other. However, the exact wording of the marriage commitment is not specified by law. So… We can get a little creative and personal with this element of your wedding ceremony!

Cool right? But, where do we start? Don’t worry, we’ve got some marriage commitment  options and ideas for you. Take a look at the list below and let you celebrant know what you like. Maybe there’s a stand out favourite, maybe you want to mix-and-match a few together, or maybe you’re going in a completely different direction. Don’t forget to tell your celebrant the wording that feels right for you.

OPTION ONE

Do you, NAME, take, NAME, as your lawful married partner/husband/wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health,until parted by death?

OPTION TWO

NAME, do you offer yourself as NAME’S wife/husband/married partner, and accept NAME to be your wife/husband/married partner? Do you promise to love them with all your heart, support them through whatever life throws at you, and always be by their side for the rest of your life in marriage?

OPTION THREE

NAME, do you take, NAME, to be your best friend,partner for life and husband/wife/married partner… With your promise to love and laugh together, to share the burden of hard times and to celebrate life’slittle victories together, to continue to go on crazy adventures together and to live forever as husband and wife/ husband and husband/ wife and wife/ forever life partners/ forever married?

OPTION FOUR

NAME, do you offer all that you are and share all that you have with NAME and promise that whatever the future holds, you will love, respect, honour and protect them? 

OPTION FIVE

NAME, do you accept NAME as your husband/wife/married partner, and do you agree to be NAME’S husband/wife/married partner? Do you promise to love and support each other, and to learn and grow together as partners and as parents to CHILDREN’S NAMES?

OPTION SIX

NAME, do you offer your whole self to NAME as aloving wife/husband/married partner, and accept, NAME, to be your husband/wife/married partner for the rest of your lives together? From this day forward do you promise to make them laugh and let them cry, to build them up when they are down and pop the champagne when they are winning, to love them just as much on the tough days as you do on the good days, to be their number one fan, and to always play your part on your team?
